Melody - Story of a Nude Dancer (2015)

In 1980, Sylvie Rancourt and her boyfriend moved to Montreal from rural Northern Quebec. With limited formal education or training, they had a hard time finding employment, so Rancourt began dancing in strip clubs. These experiences formed the backbone of the first Canadian autobiographical comic book, Melody, which Rancourt wrote, drew, and distributed, starting in 1985.

One of the masters of contemporary comics, he has also lent his visionary imagination to cinema, creating the settings for cult films such as Blade Ranner, Tron, Dune, Alien and finally the Fifth Element. In 1998 it was celebrated in Italy by an important exhibition, Infinito, hosted in Palermo (magazzini Ferroviari ai Lolli), Milan (Palazzo Bagatti Valsecchi), Venice (Fondazione Querini Stampalia). In 2000 an anthology was presented in Naples, at the Città della Scienza.

moebius - portfolio Hendrix [Moebius, Hendrix, Coghe 1998]

An iconic (at least in Europe) imagining of Jimi Hendrix in a series of psychedelic worlds and landscapes; ten color images plus three black-and-white sheets. This Hendrix portfolio is an extended riff on the art Moebius (pseudonym of Jean Girard) did for the 1975 French release of Are You Experienced and Axis: Bold As Love.

The Librarian of Auschwitz (2023)

Fourteen-year-old Dita is one of the many imprisoned by the Nazis at Auschwitz. Taken, along with her mother and father, from the Terezín ghetto in Prague, Dita is adjusting to the constant terror that is life in the camp. When Jewish leader Freddy Hirsch asks Dita to take charge of the eight precious volumes the prisoners have managed to sneak past the guards, she agrees. Sapiens Imperium (2021)

The Forest

The Forest is a graphic novella told via twenty-five singular illustrations, without words, of which only Swiss artist Thomas Ott is capable. A young boy sneaks away from a family funeral and sinks into the forest depths, where he confronts man's greatest fear and must choose his path. Drawing with a technique called scratchboard, where a white surface is covered with a black layer and scratched away, Ott creates images out of negative space to harrowing effect.
